Top 6 Mistakes New Amazon Sellers Make: How To Avoid Those Mistakes?

In this post, you will get to know about what are the top six mistakes new Amazon seller does?

And I will tell you the solution for how you can avoid those mistakes and become a successful Amazon seller.

Let me show my today's earnings in the below image you can see my profits of today.

Note: I am not bragging by showing my earnings, I added my earning snapshot because you can get inspiration from me and it is also building some credibility. So that I can teach you how to start selling on Amazon.

There are lots of opportunities in the various industries the only thing you need to do is learn, implement, improve and repeat the same process.

So, let’s identify what are the top six mistakes new Amazon sellers make and how you can avoid them?

1. Market Trends - Don't sell your products according to short market trends.

Let's define, what is market trends?

As per Wikipedia definition, a market trend is a perceived tendency of any market to move in a particular direction over time.

In other words, the trending market is not meant for the long term. It's only limited to a short period of time.

So, you should never start selling on any trending market because, in the long run, you can't be successful by following the trending market.

After a certain time, the market trend goes down and you are no longer able to generate revenue for your business.

Let me show you some examples.

Let's take the example of the Fidget spinner. It was a trending market and those Amazon sellers were selling Fidget spinners at that time they were making Millions of dollars but after a certain time this trend was going down and those sellers were selling these products are no longer making revenue.

Now, you might have a question about how will I find which product is trending.

In order to find market trends, you can use Google trend it's a FREE web-based tool.

Let's take another example, if I search for “Christmas Gifts” this is a trending market.

And as you know Christmas comes only once a year so it's a seasonal market you should not sell in the seasonal market.

Because you and I have to do long term business.

You can sell in a trending market but it's not worth it in the long-term business.

When the market trend will go down you will lose your business.

You should always sell in the evergreen market.

2. Wrong knowledge - Most people fail in the Amazon business because they don't have up-to-date knowledge about Amazon selling business.

There are so many Gurus are available they teach how to start Amazon selling business.

But, one thing I want to mention you Amazon is constantly changing its terms and conditions are changing and other things are also changing.

Because when I started in 2017 at that time Amazon product launching process was different if I compare today's Amazon product launching process.

In this internet era, everything is changing rapidly.

So, you & I should adjust to changes and make new strategies for selling more effectively on Amazon.

Make sure you're consuming up-to-date knowledge of whatever Guru or Mentor you are following. Right?

Let's move on to the third mistake & solution.

3. Very cheap product sourcing - See most people do product research and when they go on Alibaba.com for product sourcing they source very cheap products. There's no issue if you source cheap products.

But you should consider one thing in your mind when you are just started you have to provide better quality products than your competitors only this is the way to beat your competitors.

Because your competitors are already established, they have reviewed and they're selling multiple products.

You have to do something unique so that you can establish your own private label brand.

You have to provide high-quality products and a better customer experience.

When you start improving in these two aspects you will automatically start getting reviews and more sales.

Because a customer is not buying a product, they are buying a solution to their problems.

If your product is able to solve your targeted customer problem then the customer will become loyal to you and your business.

Next time they would buy from you, not your competitors because you have built a good customer relationship with your products and brand.

 4. Emotional attachment - I observe new sellers emotionally attached to their products whatever products they want to sell.

It should not be like that you have to become data-driven you should know how to do product research, whatever product you're going to launch you must ask some simple questions from yourself.

1. Is my product have high demand in the Amazon marketplace?

2. Will I make decent profits with this product?

3. How my competitors are doing and how will I sell better than my competitors?

You need to have the right strategies in order to get sales.

Remember people fail but strategy never fail.

5. No inspection - Let say I sourced products from Alibaba.com but what if I do not inspect products.

Let’s define what is product inspection?

Product inspection is a process of determining your product quality in every important aspect from product packaging to product build quality. All these things you have to inspect.

Because not a single customer will accept your defective product.

Let's suppose you ordered a product from Amazon and what if you received a defective product will you accept it?

No, this is an obvious answer.

Whenever you order new products from your Manufacturer make sure you do a product inspection before sending those products to the Amazon warehouse.

In an upcoming post, I will show you exactly how I do product inspection.

6. Check Trade Mark or Patent - Wherever you source your products whether from China or Alibaba.

You will need to check the Trade Mark of that product which you're sourcing.

If it's a Patent product then don't sell it. Because when I started, I wasn't aware of the Patent product.

When I sourced my first product for selling on Amazon, unfortunately, it was a Patent product and when I was getting high sales then I got some issues with that Patent product.

But I learned from my mistakes and now you can see I am running a successful 6-figure Amazon business.

Let me show you how you can check the Patent or Trademark of products.

I sell on Amazon Japan so I will go on https://www.jpo.go.jp/e/ for researching whatever product I am going to sell is this product Patented or not.

If you're selling in India then you can check about Trademark of any products by following this link http://www.ipindia.nic.in/

This is just the basics of researching any product Trademark or Patent.

If you want to do deep research about your product has already been Trademarked or not you can hire a patent attorney and they will help you in finding your product is Patented or not.

Conclusion

In this post, I revealed six basic mistakes new Amazon seller does. And these mistakes will be preventing you to achieve your business goals if don't avoid these mistakes.

Mistakes are just a part of our learning process but we should not repeat the same mistakes.

Let's summarise the points I have discussed in this post.

1. Market Trend

2. Wrong Knowledge

3. Sourcing Very Cheap Products

4. Emotional attachment
